I’m excited to share that the Painting Celia audiobook is now available! Since May, I’ve been listening to chapter after chapter from our talented narrator, Kathleen Strecker, while cooking dinner, running errands, or sitting on the balcony with a glass of wine. Hearing my own words read to me made the story strangely fresh and new. Now, you too can enjoy Celia and León’s journey as you work, drive, or relax!
Check out whichever format works best for you: paperback, hardcover, kindle, and now audiobook!
The process of bringing Painting Celia to audiobook format began with posting my book on ACX. I uploaded sample readings and waited for narrators to send me their audio snippets. When I heard Kathleen’s voice, I knew she was the one! Her ability to capture the characters, especially León’s mother’s Spanish accent, exactly matched what I heard in my own head.
Kathleen combines decades of experience as a musician with her professional editing career to deliver exceptional voiceovers. Working from her studio on the Oregon Coast, she provides high-quality VO for various projects, including audiobooks. Her warm, mid- to low-range voice is versatile and articulate, making her the perfect choice for Painting Celia. As we both live in Oregon, it was easy to collaborate on this project and plan for future ones.
I’ll admit, putting on my headphones to listen to Painting Celia for the first time was an exciting mix of nerves and wonder. The moment marked several “firsts” for me—my first book, and my first time experiencing it out loud. As Kathleen sent me a few chapters at a time for review, I dove eagerly into the new experience. While listening, I continued with my daily routine. I was moving at the time and spent hours packing while immersed in the story. Hearing my words brought to life in Kathleen’s voice added a new dimension to the narrative, making mundane tasks feel special.
As I continued to listen, I found myself more deeply engaged with the story. I would find myself sitting on the floor surrounded by half-packed moving boxes, fully absorbed in the world I had created. The final chapters accompanied me on a five-hour drive home from a camping trip, with my husband napping beside me. I actually teared up as the story concluded, bringing both the book and my experience of listening to it for the first time to a moving close.
Reflecting on this journey of “firsts,” I am grateful for the opportunity to hear my story in a new medium. It has been an emotional and fulfilling experience, and I invite you all to listen to the audiobook version of Painting Celia and share in this journey with me.
P.S. I have some free audiobooks I can distribute, especially if you would like to leave a review afterward! Just let me know.
