Today Marks the First Day of National Poetry Month & the Start of International Peace!!

While the first part of the above statement is true, the second (as you may have guessed) is this April Fool’s Declaration. I wish it were true, but wishing doesn’t make it so.

Instead  … we trudge onward one at a time, in step with our collective heartbeat, but still finding our way one at a time, flying our hopeful little flags of poetry & music, accompanied by the absolute exquisiteness of birds, and trees that appeared dead just weeks ago bursting into bloom before our very eyes. Do you have time to sit with me and a cup of tea to listen quietly to this musical rendition of Emily Dickinson’s “Hope Is The Thing With Feathers” as performed by Ara Duzian and his wonderful percussionist?

You may remember it from last year’s Poetry Month post.  It had a lot to say and might just be worthy of a second look. This year, another partial eclipse and another trip around the sun for me (almost). “What a time to be alive!”

And now that we’re settled in, how about this from Wendell Berry?

I had a lot in mind for today, but just maybe this is enough for now. Just maybe we can take this day, or even this week, to relax and refuel, to consider not only the peace of wild things, but the value of deep rest itself … not running away or escaping, but just taking enough time to loosen up and let go enough to keep going.  When was the last time you sang along with this song?

So … for now let us let it be. Let us loosen into the peace of wild things that do not tax their lives with forethought of grief … until next time, which will be soon.

With Love,
Sulima
